Dragon Con Highlights

Dragon Con was, as always, hot, crowded and loads of fun. My time was more limited this year by my responsibilities to the Art Show and their programming. I may not have seen everything I wanted to see, but I loved every minute, including my Artist ribbon I proudly wore on my badge. You can read more about my Art Show experiences on my website and see more photos from the convention on Facebook.

John Picacio at Dragon Con 2014Here are my highlights from this year’s convention:

  • I did exceptionally well in the Art Show, especially with it being my first year.
  • I traded hello’s with Walter Koenig on the streets of Atlanta.
  • I stood behind Lou Ferrigno on an escalator in the Hyatt Regency.
  • My panel on Digital Painting was packed!
  • I played Loteria with John Picacio and won the second game.
  • I snagged a pile of free books from SFWA.org.
  • I bought a beautiful sculpture of raven’s skull, that I won’t be able to put on my shelf till Drusilla leaves her maniacal kitten stage behind.
  • I was able to meet up with or at least chat in passing with most of my friends. That’s amazing at an event this large.
  • I made some new artist friends via the Art Show.
  • I heard author Gail Z Martin say this in one of the last panels on Monday: “I don’t think being dead makes you a bad person.”
