PRESS RELEASE: Descent into Midnight Coming to Kickstarter

What is Descent into Midnight

At its heart, Descent into Midnight (DiM) is a game about community, family, and hope. It’s a tabletop roleplaying game that takes place in a technologically advanced aquatic civilization whose culture has never been touched by humanity. Bioengineering and psionic, or mental, powers allow the strange and varied species to communicate and interact with their surroundings no matter their physiology.

In the game, players take on the roles of guardians, defending their community from a physical, emotional, and even existential threat. The game focuses on the relationships between the guardians, the inhabitants they protect, and their internal struggles and dreams in the face of a corruption that threatens to change their world.

The thing that we were building together was so hauntingly beautiful, that when something threatened to corrupt and destroy it, I felt it more viscerally than most experiences I’ve had throughout many years of playing and GM’ing games.” – Jason Robinson, UX Designer, host of The Secret Cellar Podcast

Unlike other RPGs, we have no canon setting for Descent into Midnight. Instead, we help players create the species they want to play, then work with the other players to weave their cultures and histories together to form a civilization that’s entirely unique to their table. Designed to welcome everyone, no matter their knowledge or understanding of our real-world oceans, Descent into Midnight guides you into a new and mysterious world, one that you and your friends help create.

The way [the playbooks] guided me into the character creation was great and let me explore something that I didn’t think I would do on my own.” – Drew Corkill, UX Designer

Descent into Midnight uses the award-winning Powered by the Apocalypse (PbtA) system developed by Vincent and Meguey Baker and used in popular roleplaying games like Masks: A New Generation, Monsterhearts, and Headspace. PbtA is a story-focused system that incorporates the best of both narrative and mechanical gameplay. Though players familiar with other PbtA games will have a solid foundation with Descent into Midnight, we have developed the setting and mechanics to inspire your imagination to play in new and surprising ways.

All of the things that you think you know about the world completely shift, and so the world building ends up happening on this level of continuous surprise. I don’t think it could ever get boring.“-DC, creator Mutants in the Night; Narrative Designer, Wizards of the Coast

Descent into Midnight has been in development for the past 3+ years and playtested by game designers, artists, podcasters, streamers, scientists, and con-goers around the world. We are finishing the final drafts of the project, but you can play the game using the Quick Start packet available right now. This campaign is to provide funds to bring you the best PDF and hard-copy versions of the game we can.

Descent into Midnight is a deeply personal project for us. Not only does it help us introduce players to the wonder, beauty, and terror of our real-world oceans, it works to build empathy in a way that is critically important to us as designers, and to the world we live in.

It’s very spiritual and very emotional, yet you are playing things that don’t resemble you at all. It’s a fascinating exercise in empathy.” -Devon George, Descent into Midnight artist, www.devongeorgestudios.com

Playbooks

Instead of classes or point-buy systems, Descent into Midnight uses Playbooks to guide you through character creation and to weave your story into all the others at the table. Each playbook is written around a familiar trope, giving you a narrative anchor in this alien environment, and then uses leading questions and evocative language to seed your imagination with ideas.

Our playbooks are as much about what story you want to tell, as they are about what you do in the world.

The Empath – Emotions, memories, and experiences flow through you — both your own, and those of the inhabitants around you. At one time these energies overpowered you, pouring through the open door to your heart and mind. Now you have learned to ride the waves of emotion, flowing with and redirecting the anger, joy, fear, and corruption of others.

The Cultivator – Gardener, bioengineer, aquaformer. You coax and shape the world around you to serve your needs, sometimes at great personal cost. You nurture life and those around you, growing the tools you need to solve some problems, and giving of yourself what is necessary to solve the rest.

The Redeemed – You were created to excel at one thing: conflict. Whether through physical training, bioengineering, or psychic reprogramming, you are the center of the storm when challenges arise. Though your original purpose may have been to inflict terrible consequences on your enemies, the choice is now yours – are you a weapon of war, a symbol of peace, or something else entirely?

The Awakened – You were once like the rest of your kind. Then you woke up. Some believe the planet chose you, awakening your Echo to fight the corruption. Others worry you are a child of the Corruption, mutated to serve its ends. Yet something calls to you, from the Far Echo or the deep ocean. You were awakened for a purpose, if only you could find it.

The Orator – Ambassador, politician, commander, or community leader. Your words, presence, and experiences inspire your community to work miracles. When danger lies at your community’s doorstep, folks look to you for guidance. When people have disputes, they go to you to provide mediation. When the community needs a leader, you are there.

The Traveler – Where many lives thrive within and around the cityscape, you have spent years, perhaps even centuries, studying the world outside. Whether as scholar, trader, explorer, or bounty hunter, you have collected a lifetime of knowledge and experience, and seen the best and the worst the world has to offer.

The Muse – Crafters, sculptors, singers, and storytellers, you draw on the thoughts, hopes, and fears of your community and express them for all to see. The manifestations of your imagination exist beyond the physical world, weaving the essence of the Echo into physical expressions of beauty and emotion that live in two worlds, whether through a haunting song, a life-changing story, or an architectural wonder.

The Specialist – You are an expert at getting your allies into and out of dangerous or questionable situations with skill and grace, whether rescuing the victims of a natural disaster, negotiating a lethal hydrothermal vent field, breaching the biotech security of an ancient civilization, or extracting psychic information from a coral hive-mind.

The Seeker – The Far Echo calls to you, a current carrying you to the Echoes of other realities. Do you explore those realities for knowledge and insight, or do you draw on their strange perspectives to manipulate and control the inhabitants around you?

The Touchstone – Corruption can never extinguish the wonder of life as long as life maintains hope. True, deep, and genuine compassion can transform not just a single life, but the world in which it lives. You are the innocent that befriends the grotesque or abandoned; the ally that reminds those around them their unique gifts create a better world; the stable friend providing shelter against the crushing tide of despair.

Statistics

In a game where sapient krakens and microscopic krill can create a complex society, how strong or dextrous you are isn’t as important as the social, emotional, and existential impact of the actions you take. Descent into Midnight is a game about connections, so the statistics we use to describe your character describe your relationship to yourself, your team, and the people around you.

The Stats include:

Hope – Are you a force of optimism and inspiration, or do you struggle with feelings of despair? Hope is the cornerstone of the Muse and Touchstone playbooks.

Altruism – Do you use your skills and abilities to support individuals around you, or do you struggle between your duties and your needs as an individual? Altruism is the cornerstone of the Empath and Cultivator playbooks.

Community – Are you deeply aware of how everyone in an ecology fits together and able to see from others perspectives, or is it difficult to work with others? Community is the cornerstone of the Orator and Seeker playbooks.

Calm – Are you focused and at peace during stressful times, or are you quick to react and easy to anger? Calm is the cornerstone of the Specialist and Redeemed playbooks.

Drive – Are you driven toward success and survival, or do you fold under pressure? Drive is the cornerstone of the Awakened and Traveler playbooks.

PRESS RELEASE: Onyx Path Publishing Announces They Came From Beyond the Grave! Tabletop RPG

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Onyx Path Publishing Announces They Came From Beyond the Grave! Tabletop RPG

January 13, 2020 — Rich Thomas, founder and creative director of Onyx Path Publishing announced They Came from Beyond the Grave! This new B-movie theme tabletop rpg is a tongue-in-cheek horror game employing the Storypath System.

They Came From Beyond the Grave! draws from 60s and 70s horror films similarly to how They Came From Beneath the Sea! built off of the wonder, horror, thrills, and hilarity of 1950s science fiction. They Came from Beyond the Grave! (referred to sometimes as TCfBtG!) encompasses the horror, sex, suspense, and ham of early 1960s through to late 1970s horror movies. This game will be designed to evoke everything dramatic and theatrical of the classics from Hammer, Amicus, and Roger Corman libraries, along with other “dark house” movie gems, where mysteries take place in old manors, old vampires stalk guests, and something evil lurks in the woods.

Matthew Dawkins, who developed They Came From Beneath the Sea! which is now available for pre-order, is reprising his role for this new corebook. The game is currently in first drafts.

Both digital and print editions of They Came From Beyond the Grave! are scheduled for a 2021 release following the success of a Kickstarter. The game has been designed using the Storypath System.

The Storypath System is also the engine that powers Onyx Path’s Scion 2nd Edition and Trinity Continuum RPGs.

HOW are you doing this?

We’ve assembled a crack team of judges from the tabletop RPG scene, and we’ll be announcing the awards in a show on the BAMF Podcast in February of 2020.

Visit our Gamer’s Choice page to weigh in on your favorite Supers RPG of the last year.

WHAT’S Going on NOW?

Voting is open now and runs until 1/31. (Also, please use the comments section to write-in vote for any Supers RPGs that we may have missed.) You can vote here.

WHEN do we find out who won?

In early February of 2020, we’ll announce who wins the Gamer’s Choice Award AND reveal the awards from our panel of judges. We will announce the winners [at the blog] and on an episode of the BAMF Podcast.

Free League Publishing Acquires the Coriolis Game Property

Free League Publishing – Jan 09, 2020 13:00 GMT

Free League Publishing, designers of the Tales From the Loop and ALIEN roleplaying games, today announced the acquisition of the Coriolis game property from Paradox Interactive. The Coriolis roleplaying game, with a unique mix of hard science fiction and mysticism, was released by Free League in 2017. This move signals the start of a new wave of Coriolis projects in the years to come.

Coriolis is a science fiction setting set in a remote cluster of star systems called The Third Horizon. It is a place ravaged by conflicts and war, but also home to proud civilizations, both new and old. Here, the First Come colonists of old worship the Icons, while the newly arrived Zenithians pursue an aggressive imperialistic agenda through trade and military power.

The Coriolis – The Third Horizon roleplaying game, published by Free League under license from Paradox Interactive, was awarded the ENnies Judges’ Spotlight 2017. It is designed by creators of roleplaying games such as Mutant: Year Zero, Symbaroum, Tales From the Loop, Forbidden Lands and ALIEN.

“Coriolis now joins fantasy franchises Symbaroum and Forbidden Lands in the family of game propertys fully owned by Free League Publishing. This move opens up a wide field of possibilities in the science fiction field for many years to come. We want to thank Paradox Interactive for their stewardship of Coriolis, and our close partnership with them continues for the Crusader Kings boad game,” says Tomas Härenstam, CEO of Free League Publishing.

The Coriolis setting was originally conceived by game designers Mattias Johnsson Haake, Mattias Lilja and Martin Grip, who today are part of Free League Publishing.

“Coriolis was the first ever brand we created from scratch, and it feels fantastic to have the it return to base,” Coriolis Game Director Mattias Johnsson Haake says.

Free League Publishing is a Swedish publisher dedicated to speculative fiction. We have published a range of award-winning tabletop role-playing games and critically acclaimed art books set in strange and wondrous worlds.

Our game range include the alternate ’80s Tales from the Loop (winner of five ENnie Awards 2017, including Best Game), sandbox retro fantasy Forbidden Lands (winner of four ENnie Awards 2019), postapocalyptic Mutant: Year Zero (Silver ENnie for Best Rules 2015), space opera Coriolis – The Third Horizon (Judge’s Spotlight Award 2017), dark fantasy Symbaroum, and the official ALIEN RPG.

PRESS RELEASE: HUNTERS ENTERTAINMENT ANNOUNCES PARTNERSHIP FOR WEREWOLF: THE APOCALYPSE 5TH EDITION

December 7, 2019

HUNTERS ENTERTAINMENT ANNOUNCES PARTNERSHIP FOR WEREWOLF:

THE APOCALYPSE 5TH EDITION

Release date set for 2021

Los Angeles, CA – December 7th 2019. Hunters Entertainment (Kids on Bikes, Outbreak: Undead, Altered Carbon) is excited and proud to announce their partnership with Paradox Interactive, the owners of the World of Darkness (Vampire: The Masquerade, Bloodlines 2, Mage: The Ascension) to develop and publish Werewolf: The Apocalypse 5th Edition, the next evolution of the fan-favorite tabletop roleplaying game through Renegade Games (Scott Pilgrim, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Clank, Lanterns).

Werewolf: The Apocalypse takes place in a fictional version of our Earth: the World of Darkness. In the World of Darkness, werewolves, vampires, magicians, and monsters are all living among us. An entire supernatural world hidden in plain sight. You are one of these monsters, pretending to be human but fighting for survival and supremacy among mysteries and conspiracies that threaten the existence of humanity.

“Werewolf is about how we help/hinder each other to survive against great odds,” said Ivan Van Norman, partner and producer of Hunters Entertainment. “This game was the first campaign I ever GM’ed, and I believe its stories are more relevant and impactful now than they’ve ever been – which is why we’re excited to bring it back to fans old and new.”

Players will play as Garou, individuals born of two worlds, the material and the Umbra (spirit world), who can shapeshift into wolves at will. In Werewolf: The Apocalypse the world, Gaia, is dying. After many generations, the Garou – Gaia’s chosen warriors and defenders – are divided on how to save the planet, their spiritual mother. Attacked by outside forces and plagued by infighting, each Garou tribe shares different ideologies and goals, which have – up to this point – all failed them in their ultimate goal, to rescue a dying Gaia.

Set to release in 2021, the new edition of Werewolf: The Apocalypse has been long anticipated by fans and was teased at PDX Con in Berlin by the World of Darkness team.

“The story of the Garou has never been more relevant than it is today, which means Werewolf has an important role in the unique, global, transmedia setting we are building with the World of Darkness. In Hunters Entertainment we have a partner who clearly shares our passion for The Apocalypse,” said Sean Greaney, Brand Manager for World of Darkness at Paradox Interactive. “We were particularly impressed by their creative vision and ability, and so we are very happy to be partnering with them in bringing this newest chapter of Werewolf to the world.”

Mechanically, the game is set to share a lot of similarities with the recent release of Vampire: The Masquerade 5th Edition but will have a lot of elements that make it unique.

Werewolf: The Apocalypse 5th Edition will be marketed and distributed by Renegade Games, and will be available in retail stores internationally and online.

As the army fights to contain the tide of evil creatures teeming up out of the black clouds, the kingdom’s best soldiers, the rangers, must venture down into the shadows to gather information, rescue prisoners, and ambush enemy supply lines. It is a desperate fight against overwhelming odds, but every little victory brings another day of hope.
Rangers of Shadow Deep is a solo and co-operative tabletop miniatures game, in which players create their ranger, gather companions, and play through a series of missions in their fight to hold back the darkness. If their rangers survive, they will grow in power and ability, and be sent on more difficult, dangerous and intricate assignments.
First developed by the creator of Frostgrave and Ghost Archipelago Joseph A. McCullough, Rangers of Shadow Deep was previously only available through DriveThruRPG and has been a huge hit with roleplayers and miniature gamers alike with its narrative-driven gameplay.
This 136 page Deluxe edition with a forest ranger green faux leather cover presents an updated version of the core rules and combines them with all of the character-building elements first presented in Temple of Madness. Also included are a dozen new pieces of art from Barrett Stanley, drawn in the same dark, shadowy style that has characterized the entire series. Although there are lots of small tweaks and improvements throughout the rules, perhaps the biggest change with this edition is the introduction of ‘Challenge Levels’ to all of the scenarios. These can be used when playing with 3 or 4 rangers to ramp up the difficulty, or if you want to replay the scenario with a higher-level ranger.
“With the help of Modiphius, it is wonderful to bring this improved edition of the game to a wider audience and I’m looking forward to seeing many more people join the ranks of the Rangers!” Said Joe McCullough.
Chris Birch, Publisher of Modiphius discovered Rangers of Shadowdeep last year,
“After a savage battle through the wildness with my own metal heroes I fell in love with the world and gameplay. I think Joe’s done a fantastic job of crossing the RPG and miniatures streams. We keep pushing the boundaries with narrative and co-op miniatures games and this is such a great introduction to the genre for any player.”
The Deluxe edition also includes the first supplement for the game, Burning Light. In this mission, the Rangers’ must venture to a ruined convent, searching for an ancient artefact. As they choose what order to explore the ruins, and thus the order in which scenarios are played, they must gather clues to the artefact’s location. But they must be quick, for the longer they remain, the more the forces of the Shadow Deep become aware of their presence.
Modiphius will be releasing Rangers of Shadow Deep Deluxe edition in retail as a beautiful hardback in February 2020. You can pre-order it now here for shipping in the first week of February and download the PDF immediately or pre-order in your local store and they can also request the PDF for you.

PRESS RELEASE: UNLEASH MORE HEROES! THE ADVANCED PLAYER’S GUIDE PLAYTEST HAS BEGUN

PRESS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

UNLEASH MORE HEROES!

THE ADVANCED PLAYER’S GUIDE PLAYTEST HAS BEGUN

Get ready for more high-fantasy classes for Pathfinder Second Edition:

investigator, oracle, swashbuckler, and witch!

REDMOND, WASHINGTON (November 6, 2019): Today, less than 100 days after the launch of Pathfinder Second Edition, Paizo has launched the worldwide Advanced Player’s Guide Playtest of four new classes. Players are invited to go to PathfinderPlaytest.com, download the free PDF, make one—or more!—of the playtest classes, and put them to the test!

“We’d like you to play these classes in a variety of levels and situations. If you’re looking for a published adventure, we recommend Fall of Plaguestone, which offers a standalone experience at some of the most commonly played levels of the game with some particularly challenging combats that can help put the classes through their paces,” said Jason Bulmahn, Director of Game Design.

This playtest focuses on four new classes for the upcoming Advanced Player’s Guide, a rulebook full of new character options that is scheduled for release at GEN CON in August of 2020.

The investigator is a savvy, street-smart character who takes cases to uncover clues and solve mysteries. This class ties to parts of the game that aren’t covered in depth in the Core Rulebook, so the playtest will see if their approach to solving mysteries is satisfying while keeping the rules for the game as a whole flexible.

The oracle commands divine powers by drawing from universal concepts, casting powerful revelation spells that take a toll on their body and manifest as a double-edged curse. The designers want to make sure the curse effects are fun and engaging without disrupting the balance of the class compared to other characters. For the playtest, they’ve selected only a subset of mysteries, but there will be more in the final version.

The swashbuckler is the flamboyant daredevil of the battlefield, tumbling through foes and entering a heightened state to deliver devastating finishing blows. Players will be testing a system that encourages them to gain panache, a state of bombastic flair that lets them use more powerful abilities. The playtest version emphasizes new rules specific to the class so that they can playtest those thoroughly, but the final version might pick up some of the fighter’s weapon feats suited to dueling.

The witch serves a mysterious patron entity, casting spells and hexes learned through a powerful familiar. This is the most flexible spellcasting class Paizo has introduced since it allows you to build your own path by selecting not only feats but also lessons from your patron. The designers want to make sure those options work well both narratively and mechanically across all three of the spellcasting traditions the witch can gain access to.

Once you’ve had a chance to try the classes, you can submit your feedback in the following ways. If you only have time for one form of feedback, Paizo asks you to please take the survey. It makes it easier for them to hear and apply your feedback since it’s more structured and puts your responses directly at their fingertips.

Surveys: Head to https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/APGClassSurvey and https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/APGOpenResponse to take surveys that will allow the designers to gather your responses. These surveys will be available starting Tuesday, November 12, 2019 and they will remain open until the end of the playtest.

Forums: On paizo.com, you’ll find a general forum for discussion and announcements, plus forums for each of the four new classes. When you post to the forums, look for existing threads on your topic before starting a new one. Remember that every poster is trying to make the game better for everyone, so please be polite and respectful.

Twitch: Players can engage with designers on Paizo’s Twitch channel at twitch.tv/officialpaizo this Friday at 4:00 p.m. Pacific. Video from that stream will be archived on Paizo’s YouTube channel at youtube.com/PaizoInc.

The playtest will run until December 2, 2019. Paizo is looking for your feedback, comments, and criticisms regarding these classes, but they’re focusing our attention on feedback from play. Make new characters, use them as PCs or adversaries, and run a few game sessions or encounters incorporating them! Go to PathfinderPlaytest.com to unleash your newest hero!

PRESS RELEASE: Vaesen – Nordic Horror Roleplaying by Free League Publishing Funded in 13 Minutes on Kickstarter

Vaesen – Nordic Horror Roleplaying by Free League Publishing Funded in 13 Minutes on Kickstarter

Free League Publishing – Nov 05, 2019 13:18 GMT

Today, the Kickstarter for the new Vaesen – Nordic Horror Roleplaying game line was launched by Free League Publishing, makers of the Tales From the Loop and ALIEN RPGs. Vaesen presents a unique take on Gothic horror roleplaying, in a dark Nordic setting steeped in folklore and old myths of Scandinavia. The Kickstarter reached its base funding goal in just 13 minutes.

In dark forests, beyond the mountains, by black lakes in hidden groves. At your doorstep. In the shadows, something stirs. Strange beings. Twisted creatures, lurking at the edge of vision. Watching. Waiting. Unseen by most, but not by you. You see them for what they really are.

Vaesen.

Written by award-winning author Nils Hintze (Tales From the Loop RPG) and based on the work of Swedish illustrator and author Johan EgerkransVaesen – Nordic Horror Roleplaying presents a dark Gothic setting steeped in Nordic folklore and old myths of Scandinavia. The game mechanics use an adapted version of the award-winning Year Zero Engine.

Vaesen takes place in the Mythic North – northern Europe of the nineteenth century, but not as we know it today. A land where the myths are real. A cold reach covered by vast forests, its few cities lonely beacons of industry and enlightenment – a new civilization dawning. But in the countryside, the old ways still hold sway. There, people know what lurks in the dark.

They know to fear it.

In Vaesen, the players take the roles of individuals born different. They have the Sight – the ability to see what ordinary people cannot. They know that vaesen have lived beside humanity for untold centuries, in an uneasy peace. Not anymore. Rumors spread of kittens born with two heads, streams red from blood, groves lulling children into eternal sleep, fairies dancing through villages, luring the young into the woods to be forever enthralled.

Embarking on journeys to remote villages in the wilderness, the players will uncover the secrets of the Mythic North. Armed with nothing but their courage, conviction, and ability to see the supernatural, they will face the creatures of the forest.

You can find the Kickstarter here.

PRESS RELEASE: Lightning War RPG Coming to Kickstarter November 5th

Ben Sandfelder is thrilled to announce that Lightning War will be launching on Kickstarter November 5th. The game is set in a high fantasy world threatened by a reincarnating Dark Lord. When three of the world’s most powerful nations are swayed towards fascism and evil, everyday people are thrown into the front lines of a conflict that will change the world forever.

The game plays like a dramatic tabletop RPG version of X-COM. Each player controls a small team of soldiers – a unique specialist and two helpful grunts. The players’ teams form a single squad, which must work together to complete dangerous missions created by the game master. Every life-or-death decision becomes a chance for heated roleplay. Your squad’s hotshot Arcanist wants to rescue the wounded scout, but can the officer afford to take that risk?

It’s time to stop the Dark Lord’s forces in their tracks. Back Lightning War on Kickstarter on November 5th.

PRESS RELEASE: Survival of the Able Now Infecting Kickstarter

Survival of the Able Now Infecting Kickstarter

The Black Death has come to your village. Everywhere around you people are succumbing to the plague. Quarantines are doing little to stem the tide of decay that is coming your way. Worst of all, you and the others in your almshouse have been left to fend for yourselves.

Oh, and did we mention plague victims are rising as zombies?

In Survival of the Able you’re a person with a disability living in a European almshouse when the Black Death arrives. Little is known about where the plague originated or how to stop it, but those who die from it are rising again—and they’re hungry for flesh. Since everyone else has succumbed to the plague, it’s up to a handful of you to make your way out of town and away to safety. You may not be the biggest, the strongest, or the fittest, but you’re determined to survive.

What is Survival of the Able?

Survival of the Able is a tabletop RPG about empathy. In this game, you will play as a person with a disability in the Middle Ages. The world isn’t very hospitable to you and your kind, and that’s before plague-ridden zombies started rising up to devour everyone around them. As you struggle for survival, you’ll get a feeling for what it is like to endure discrimination, tstruggle with inaccessible surroundings, and to overcome adversity. This isn’t a game about heroic people and their heroic deeds. It’s a game about ordinary folks who have no choice but to challenge the stereotypes that keep them down. It’s a game about overcoming 14th Century plagues and 21st Century discrimination.

About the Campaign

Accessible Games is raising $8,000 in 30 days to fund production for the book. The game is already written, but it needs art, editing, and layout to be complete. You can contribute to get a PDF, a printed book, a custom illustration, or an online game with the game’s designer.

Survival of the Able was developed by Jacob Wood, a blind game designer, and is being produced by other disabled and marginalized contributors.

Scramble over to the Kickstarter campaign to get your copy today. http://www.bit.ly/SotALive

About Accessible Games

Since 2010, Accessible Games has been advocating for people with disabilities in the tabletop games industry. Originally a board game review blog focusing on the accessibility of game mechanics and components, they eventually branched out into making their own RPGs.

“I was getting frustrated over the inaccessibility of RPGs in electronic formats,” said Jacob Wood, owner of Accessible Games. “I knew the technology was available to make PDFs accessible to screen readers, but most companies weren’t taking advantage of it. I realized I needed to learn how to make usable products so I could teach others how to do the same.”

In 2013, Accessible Games released Psi-punk, their first complete RPG, after raising funds on Kickstarter.  The game uses tactile Fudge Dice and straightforward mechanics to showcase how complex games can be simplified without sacrificing fun. Perhaps just as importantly, the PDF was designed to be screen reader friendly so it can be read by people with a variety of print disabilities.

Since then, Accessible Games has produced several other products, including two educational resources for other publishers. “Game Publishing Lessons” and “Accessible Guide to RPG Layout” have both reached hundreds of publishers and game designers, several of whom have directly credited these titles for helping to improve the accessibility of their games.

After making an impact on the publisher side of the hobby, Accessible Games is now reaching out to players to continue the quest for inclusion and representation. With Survival of the Able,” on Kickstarter from October 19th to November 18th, 2019, their goal is to foster empathy and understanding for people with disabilities. Using a version of the Fudge System tailored for the job, the game is designed to give players and unpleasant taste for what it’s like to experience discrimination and injustice.

“We want to make you feel discomfort,” said Jacob. “I’ve learned that people don’t bother to change unless they are uncomfortable.”

PRESS RELEASE: Major Expansion To Multiple Award-Winning Fantasy RPG Forbidden Lands Now On Kickstarter

Free League Publishing

Major Expansion To Multiple Award-Winning Fantasy RPG Forbidden Lands Now On Kickstarter

Free League Publishing – Sep 12, 2019 14:22 BST

Get ready for a long, cold winter. The Bitter Reach, a huge expansion to the multiple award-winning sandbox survival retro fantasy roleplaying game Forbidden Lands by Free League Publishing, is now live on Kickstarter. The Kickstarter is also for a second printing of the core Forbidden Lands game box, which is completely sold out everywhere.

Written by RPG veteran Magnus Seter, illustrated by Alvaro Tapia, and with maps by Tobias Tranell and Niklas Brandt, the The Bitter Reach will expand the game world and includes new rules, monsters and encounters, as well as the complete Wake of the Winter King campaign. Beneath the ice and snow in the cursed lands north of Ravenland, an ancient power is stirring…

The second printing will include rules updates and clarifications as well as some new art, and backers can opt to have it shipped shortly after the end of the Kickstarter.

Forbidden Lands, released last December, won four ENnie Awards this year, among them Gold ENnies for Best Production Values and Best Cartography, and Silver ENnies for Best Rules and Product of the Year, and was voted Best RPG at the UK Game Expo.

“It’s like somone took hazy childhood memories of a classic D&D game and mixed them with a dash of bleak Scandinavian darkness.” –Tabletop Magazine

“Feeling. Excitement. Adventure. Forbidden Lands nails all of it. I can’t describe it easily: just opening the boxed set, perusing the faux-leather rulebooks and checking out the art is enough to make you want to play this game. I don’t know what sort of subliminal messages the designers have embedded in this, it is however mesmerizing.”–RPGNet Review

“Superbly packaged, Forbidden Lands is a pleasing combination of Old School nostalgia and fast, simple mechanics with unobtrusive narrative elements designed to bring aspects of the character into play. Its setting offers scope for the player characters to develop not just personally, but also in terms of their place in the world.” –Reviews from R’lyeh

“This may be the most perfect role-playing game product I’ve ever seen.” –Plot Points RPG Podcast

The dark fantasy roleplaying game Symbaroum has earned several nominations and awards, including a Best Game nomination at the Origins Awards 2016. And we are proud to say that our roleplaying game Tales from the Loop RPG based on Simon Stålenhags iconic artbooks made a grand slam at the ENnie Awards 2017, winning five Gold ENnies – among them Best Game. Our latest fantasy RPG is Forbidden Lands, recently named one of the best RPGs of 2018 by Geek & Sundry.

More Bureau 13 Redacted Information Released, Kickstarter Video preview, and Monsters Galore!

Oak Park Michigan: 08.27.2019: Tri Tac Legacy (TTL)

Tri Tac Legacy and Longshot Productions would like to thank you, the media, for coverage of Bureau 13: Stalking the Night Fantastic Savage Worlds Edition over the last year. TTL’s and LSP’s David Boop appeared on Dave Bara’s Out on the Edge podcast on 08/21/91. He will next appear on Trae Dorn and Nick Izumi’s Nerd & Tie podcast on 08/28/19 [see links below].

As Friday September 13th approaches, fans of Bureau 13 and Savage Worlds soon will be treated to the Kickstarter page. One surprises will be the Bureau 13 Kickstarter video which features the voices of Meghan Caves and Tyler Rhoades of Saving Throw playing Bureau Agents. Meghan and Tyler were a big hit during the “Bureau 13 – The Thing from Walnut Creek” episode. The video will also showcase two-minutes of amazing art from the sourcebook.

Featured art will include classic B13 creatures like the Russian Bolotnik, the demonic Black Car, and Mad Gasser of Mattoon alongside some of the newly evolved monsters like the Pili Mara, the Chihauhaucabras, and the Fat-Bottomed Ghouls.  Additionally, fan favorite characters like Robert Harrison, McMasters Marauders, and Nicola Tesla will have amazing scenes from interior artist Michelle Joy Montrose.

TTL reveals the redacted ritual replacement components from last week’s press release including a Yeti Costume [must’ve been worn], an unopened MickyD’s Szechuan Dipping Sauce Packet, and a fork once used by Martin Scorsese to eat spaghetti. Congrats to those clever agents who figured it out!

Storm Hollow

Just as exciting for us: we have acquired the rights to the wildly popular roleplaying game…

Created by Escapade Games and originally Kickstarted in 2012, Storm Hollow isn’t just ENnie-nominated. It isn’t just one of the finest coming of age roleplaying games we’ve ever seen. It’s one of the finest all ages family RPGs we’ve ever seen, full stop. We can’t be happier to bring it into the Crafty Games family alongside our best-selling kids’ title, Little Wizards.

Our acquisition of Storm Hollow came with a very limited supply of the existing edition of the game – a title that’s been out of print and unavailable for some time. We’re bringing a very small quantity of the game with us to Gen Con, and the rest of this short supply is available through our webstore right now.

Simply click on any of these images to go straight to the product page!

This isn’t the end of the story, either. We’re currently working with Escapade Games and members of their original creative team to bring an all-new edition of the game to game stores everywhere! Once again, watch this space for news as we approach this exciting relaunch of one of the most deserving games out there.

PRESS RELEASE: DUNGEONS&LASERS AFFORDABLE AND MULTI-PURPOSE RPG TERRAIN IS COMING TO KICKSTARTER

On August 13th this year, Archon Studio will bring a brand new plastic terrain system to Kickstarter. The terrain system will be compatible with a large array of popular tabletop RPG games.

Currently, on the tabletop market, there are no RPG terrain systems, as a vast majority of those are designed for wargaming, „not pen and paper” gaming.

To create the perfect dungeon, RPG fans often had to draw them on a piece of paper, handcraft it by themselves or even buy 3d printed elements from 3rd parties.

Archon Studio provides an easy to use, hard-plastic walls and floors, which can be assembled without a drop of glue and allow players to quickly and efficiently create their fantasy environments.

Dungeons&Lasers is designed with two major design themes in mind: fantasy dungeons and sci-fi modern environments.

As a bonus, each set will feature unique animal companions. These are miniatures stylized for either fantasy sets or sci-fi areas featuring cats, dogs, weasels and more.

The system is created with popular RPG games in mind, this is scale is 28/32mm compatible and floors are featuring a visible grid of 25mm/1 inch squares.

Thanks to proper dimensions, Dungeons&Lasers can be used with Dungeons&Dragons, Starfinder, Pathfinder and many more tabletop games.

“We have previously created plastic terrain for wargamers. Among them, there are many fans who have asked us about something for RPG games. So we have designed our first dungeon since our childhood – says Michal Hartlinski, Project manager from Archon Studio.

“The aim of the game is to make it multi-purpose – there are also sci-fi fans out there, who have an especially hard time getting terrain for their games. This is where Dungeons&Lasers come into play”.

The campaign starts on August 13th on the Kickstarter platform.

The Kickstarter edition will feature plenty of bonuses, available only during the campaign – to get notified on launch subscribe on dungeonsandlasers.com.

Archon Studio is an EU based company, with 7 Kickstarters campaigns already funded, registered, 1 and it’s located in Pila, Poland.
