PRESS RELEASE – Storytelling Gets Stylish with Stunning Vampire: The Masquerade Official Gaming Gear

Storytelling Gets Stylish with Stunning Vampire: The Masquerade Official Gaming Gear

Ever finished a Vampire: The Masquerade tabletop session and thought how great it would be to have a unique, and super stylish, way to store your gaming gear? Perhaps it’s time for you to upgrade that printed cardboard Storyteller’s screen to something a little more thematic (and magnificent).

If a physical upgrade to your game nights is in order, gaming accessory craft-houses Elderwood Academy and Dog Might have just what you’re looking for with their new Vampire: The Masquerade-themed accessories, which feature both elements of the game itself, and the newly launched Geek and Sundry L.A. by Night livestream campaign.

Accessory crafter Dog Might has created a line of authentic hardwood accessories, featuring gorgeous Storyteller screens showcasing two designs — Rust and Death — that are both full of personality and practicality. The storyteller screens have three African Wenge hardwood panels and a catalyzed lacquer finish.

Elderwood Academy has something special for those especially diehard Vampire: The Masquerade fans: the Tome — a spellbook-styled game box with plenty of room for dice, pencils, notes, and cards. These one-of-a-kind spellbooks are carved out of dark walnut, bound in onyx leather, and adorned with your clan’s sigil.

Each of these elegant items can be seen on Geek and Sundry’s newest live show, L.A. by Night, a live-streamed tabletop RPG series featuring the newly released 5th edition of Vampire: The Masquerade. The eight-episode series streams every Friday night until November 2, 2018, on twitch.tv/geekandsundry and projectalpha.com.

Vampire: The Masquerade Official Gaming Gear – Dog Might Games

PRESS RELEASE – Vampire: The Masquerade – L.A. By Night Live Series Hosted by Geek & Sundry Begins This Friday

This Friday, September 14, 2018, gaming network Geek & Sundry will host their first live-streamed play session of Vampire: The Masquerade 5th Edition (V5) — the newest entry in White Wolf Entertainment’s iconic tabletop roleplaying series.

The Vampire: The Masquerade – L.A. By Night live play series will consist of eight weekly episodes, streamed Fridays at 8:00 PM PDT, culminating in a final episode on November 2. Jason Carl, White Wolf’s Head of Community — whose work previously included designing adventures and supplements for Dungeons and Dragons, Vampire: The Masquerade – Mind’s Eye Theatre, and other RPG titles — will guide play sessions as the storyteller (Vampire’s “Dungeon Master”). Geek & Sundry viewers will be transported into a nocturnal world rich with danger, intrigue, and political machinations, as the creatures of the night battle (or bargain) for supremacy in modern Los Angeles.

Carl has set the stage for Geek & Sundry’s V5 play sessions in contemporary Los Angeles — a city that’s become the center of fashion, art, and entertainment. It’s also home to the Anarch Movement. Once ruled by the Elders, the Anarch vampires claimed the city for themselves to make a mark in Kindred history. The city was a model of freedom and equality to Kindred across the world, but many territorial-minded local leaders carved the land into bite-sized communities controlled by “Barons,” where the rules and local culture differ greatly.

The Vampire: The Masquerade – L.A. By Night chronicle follows after the events of the Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines video game, in which the Camarilla clan failed to install a new Prince of Los Angeles. Since then, they never stopped their attempts to reclaim the city as their own. Another player in the power struggle is clan Ventrue, led by Vannevar Thomas, who has declared himself Los Angeles’ new Prince. Blood, politics, and betrayal sit at the foundation of the City of Angels.

In the livestream sessions, the Geek & Sundry cast will portray young, impressionable vampires surviving amidst this political turmoil as they do their Baron’s bidding and protect their territory.

The cast of Geek & Sundry’s Vampire: The Masquerade – L.A. By Night live show includes Erika Ishii (as Annabelle), Cynthia Marie (as Nelli G), B. Dave Walters (as Victor Temple), and Alexander Ward (as Jasper Heartwood). Each player will represent a different character from a different clan — each with their own motives and moral drivers. Carl and the players have already created a backstory for each character in the game, each with their own beliefs, ambitions, and secrets. The story also includes vital NPCs to help enrich the game world, drawn from the rich lore of the World of Darkness.
The Vampire: The Masquerade – L.A. By Night live show will be available on Alpha, Legendary Digital Networks’ streaming service. New Alpha members can sign up with the special promo code “BITTEN” for a 60-day free trial at www.projectalpha.com.

PRESS RELEASE – DarkCoast Unveils All this September with the White Wolf’s ‘WORLD OF DARKNESS’ Documentary

DarkCoast Unveils All this September with the White Wolf’s ‘WORLD OF DARKNESS’ Documentary

It Could Barely be Predicted that the White Wolf Founders, Mark Rein-Hagen and Stewart Wieck, who Started Working Out of their Garage Would Change RPGs Forever.

LOS ANGELES, CA (SEPTEMBER 10, 2018) – DarkCoast and White Wolf Entertainment presents WORLD OF DARKNESS: the Documentary – coming to the USA this September.

Directed by award-winning Giles Alderson (The Dare, The Heart of the Forest), WORLD OF DARKNESS is a documentary that unites millions of worldwide fans through the evolution of one of the most prolific and genre-defining role-playing franchises capturing audiences worldwide since its inception in 1991 while exploring the most legendary role-play universes since Dungeon & Dragons. Deemed “the most extensively developed vampire mythology ever with the RPG game Vampire: The Masquerade,” by Imagine Film Festival, WORLD OF DARKNESS explores the continuing legacy that still remains popular today.

“It is an excellent story, which has never been told before and can introduce the world to old and new fans alike,” divulged the Huffington Post.

Written and produced by Kevin Lee (Gaming the Real World) from Luckyday, White Wolf’s WORLD OF DARKNESS charts the rise and fall of one of gaming’s most significant role-playing games and the development of modern vampire culture, as we know. As an in-depth look into the universe of WORLD OF DARKNESS, the documentary exemplifies its primary influence from its first book, Vampire: The Masquerade, and innovative gameplay that focuses on its extended universe and making relationships within this universe rather than the traditional tabletop questing. The talking-head interviews, archived footage and video from LARP (live-action role-playing) events are used to showcase the World of Darkness’ influence over the years. From influencing club culture, fashion, literature, film, television, entertainment platforms and publications, the World of Darkness has become an unstoppable cultural force. “The most important point Alderson makes is why Vampire: The Masquerade was so important to the culture at large and how it changed not only the world of gaming but how it helped to shape pop culture altogether,” wrote Quiet Earth.

WORLD OF DARKNESS showcases the large cultural impact that White Wolf continues to capture in its worldwide audiences. It could barely be predicted that its founders, Mark Rein-Hagen and Stewart Wieck, who started working out of their garage, would change RPGs, as we know them entirely. Entertaining and enlightening WORLD OF DARKNESS “celebrates the crazy loyalists to these games who made it a part of their lifestyles and mode of dress,” wrote WonderWeek. The gaming industry is three times larger than film industry; Alderson’s game doc qualifies for equal mainstream media, as WORLD OF DARKNESS “is a detailed, in-depth documentary that explains the social phenomenon on the one hand, and the behind-the-scenes business machinations on the other. A must-see for all avid gamers.”

The game doc’s evolution and worldwide popularity is told through notable celebrities including White Wolf founders, Mark Rein-Hagen and Stewart Wieck, alongside Vampire: The Masquerade artists, Andrew Greenburg, Justin Achilli and Tim Bradstreet. Supporting interviews come from worldwide fans and their fan clubs that also assisted in the evolvement of the franchise into the true phenomenon it is today.

DarkCoast will bring White Wolf’s WORLD OF DARKNESS to the USA on September 18th, 2018 for its online digital release streaming on various VOD platforms (Amazon, InDemand, iTunes, Fandango, Dish, FlixFling, Vimeo on Demand, Google Play, Sling). For more information, please visit: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6177752.

WORLD OF DARKNESS (2018, 89 min.) Directed by Giles Anderson. Written and produced by: Kevin Lee. Executive producer: Henrik Johannson. Edited by: Rodney Guest. Sweden, English. Figi Productions, Luckyday, White Wolf, TriCoast Worldwide, DarkCoast.

The driving force behind this move appears to be the desire to reduce the commissions charged by other sites by 10% to 15% (bringing the amount the creator receives to 80%).

RPG News, Press Releases, and Conventions – Wraith 5th Ed, Conan Lawsuit, The Fantasy Trip OGL, AetherCon VII, and more

RPG news is delivered in small bites and press releases throughout the week and, as best I can, I filter through them to focus on the under-reported odds and the ends. From White Wolf to Etsy, from upcoming conventions to legal rulings, this week there’s a lot to talk about.

NEWS BITES

  • At Gen Con, I had the opportunity to talk with both White Wolf and Onyx Path. While they White Wolf September as the month for a major Werewolf: The Apocalypse announcement, they preceded it on Facebook with a different revelation, Wraith: The Oblivion 5th Edition is on their agenda. What makes the announcement intriguing is Onyx Path’s Wraith: The Oblivion 20th Anniversary Edition (licensed from White Wolf) was Kickstarted and funded in January, 2015 with the PDFs of the core book available as of February, 2018 and the deluxe edition of WtO 20th being printed now. While it’s logical that, with the success of Vampire: The Masquerade 5th Edition White Wolf will move forward with their other major games, it’s aggressive to announce a new one is coming before the current edition has completed its roll out.

NOTE – There are several White Wolf press releases with even more information about Vampire: The Masquerade games linked below.

Status: Coming Soon!

  • Conan Properties International LLC has successfully sued artist Richardo Jove Sanchez over his unlicensed Conan miniatures. From Amanda Ottaway with Courthouse News Service, “Cracking down on the unauthorized sale of miniature Conan the Barbarian figurines, a federal judge hit a Spanish artist on Wednesday with a $21,000 copyright judgment.” The key point pulled from this is: “Senior U.S. District Judge Frederic Block called it erroneous Wednesday to treat “characters as separate and distinct copyright subject matter, divorced from the works in which they are embodied.”” While I’m not a lawyer and I may be misreading the tea leaves, this ruling could have consequences for “homage” projects or projects that use characters whose founding works are in the public domain, but whose later works are not.

Conan Properties entered a screenshot of this post into evidence to support its copyright claims over figurines of its character, Conan the Barbarian.”

EGG’S MUSINGS

  • I’ve been reading about the end of the Buffy, the Vampire Slayer license at Dark Horse Comics. It reminded me of Eden Studio’s BtVS and Angel RPGs. It’s interesting that they ceased to be in-print in 2006 but are still available as PDFs at commercial sites. I’ve wondered why this license has not been picked back up, then I see that the original RPG is still available and I wonder, with the BtVS reboot on the horizon, will another company pick up this game?

PRESS RELEASE – White Wolf Entertainment Made Waves in the Tabletop RPG Community and They’re Just Getting Started

Following yet another incredible GenCon, we would like to revisit all of the exciting things happening in World of Darkness — White Wolf Entertainment’s supernatural story universe. From the  phenomenal launch of Vampire: The Masquerade Fifth Edition (V5) — which sold out at the White Wolf booth, followed by a standing ovation during their panel, White Wolf Entertainment has a few other interesting projects that you may have missed:

Vampire: The Masquerade Fifth Edition (V5) Core Book — The V5 core book was launched in conjunction with the start of GenCon 2018 in Indianapolis, Indiana. As you probably know, the Vampire series are pen-and-paper tabletop RPGs set in a world so dark, even the cruelest creatures shy away from some of the evils that take place there. The corebook is the first entry in the new fifth edition. The V5 Camarillaand Anarch sourcebooks will be released in November. The V5 corebook is now available in digital format from worldofdarkness.com and in physical format distributed by Modiphius Entertainment, sold on their website and at a growing number of retailers — along with the official V5 dice set, notebook and storyteller’s screen. Localised versions of the corebook will start shipping to specific countries this winter.

Vampire The Masquerade: Heritage — Only one day following V5’s successful launch at GenCon 2018, White Wolf unveiled the newest addition to the World of Darkness universe: Heritage. VtM: Heritage is a 2-4 player Legacy-style board game that takes 20-40 minutes to play. Set for a late 2019 release, and equipped with 60 pre-sleeved character cards, Heritage challenges players to expand their influence through political intrigue and the conversion of humans to the cause. More Information: http://www.vtm-heritage.com.

Chicago By Night – Vampire: The Masquerade 5th Edition — At GenCon, Onyx Path Publishing announced their collaborative project with White Wolf Entertainment:Chicago By Night. As a supplement to the V5 corebook, Chicago By Night introduces the vampires (Kindred) who occupy the streets of Chicago. New loresheets and scenarios advance the Vampire metaplot and introduce a variety of new stories and characters. Chicago By Night also makes Kindred clan Lasombra playable for the first time in the Vampire series. More Information: https://uberstrategist.link/Chicago-By-Night-Info.

Whether you’re into live-action role-play or just want to feel like fabric softener dew on freshly mowed Astroturf, you can preorder here: https://uberstrategist.link/Belldonna-V5-Collection-Preorder.

RPG News, Press Releases, and Deals – Fat Goblin Games and TinyD6, John Silence Open Call, New James S.A. Corey Expanse Short Story, and more

Yesterday I covered four RPG KickstartersTiny Supers, Spacecraft 2000 to 2100 AD, Art of War, and Power Outage here. Today, let’s look at some news, press releases, and RPG deals.

NEWS BITES

  • Are you a fan of The Expanse either the novel series or the TV series? If/when Green Ronin Publishing’s The Expanse Roleplaying Game reaches $300,000 and $400,000 in funding, the plan is to offer:

“$300,000: James S.A. Corey Flash Fiction
We will add a new flash fiction reward tier. Imagine if you could have Daniel and Ty write a one page story about your Expanse RPG character. A select number of backers will be able to do just that if we unlock this stretch goal. All backers who pledge $30 or more will get a PDF of these stories for free!

$400,000: New James S.A. Corey Short Story
The big enchilada! If we unlock this stretch goal, Ty and Daniel will write a brand new Expanse short story for the rulebook. PRESS RELEASE – CREATE A BLOOD-DRENCHED VAMPIRIC LEGACY IN VAMPIRE: THE MASQUERADE – HERITAGE BOARD GAME — COMING TO TABLETOPS IN Q3 2019

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CREATE A BLOOD-DRENCHED VAMPIRIC LEGACY IN VAMPIRE: THE MASQUERADE – HERITAGE BOARD GAME — COMING TO TABLETOPS IN Q3 2019

Explore and Expand Clan Politics and Develop your Vampiric Bloodline in the Definitive Vampire: The Masquerade Board Game Experience

STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN (AUGUST 6, 2018) – White Wolf Entertainment, in cooperation with board game publisher Nice Game Publishing GmbH, has unveiled a new chapter in the Vampire: The Masquerade storytelling universe — Vampire: The Masquerade – Heritage, a new Legacy-format game of Vampire clan politics and historical manipulation. In Heritage, designed by Babis Giannios — a long-time Vampire Storyteller, players take on the role of an ancient vampire, shaping over 700 years of kindred and human history through political machinations, subversion and secrecy. With first demo sessions being available at SPIEL ‘18, and set for full release at SPIEL ’19 in Essen, Germany, Vampire: The Masquerade – Heritage will challenge players to make decisions that shape history, while expanding the influence of their vampire clans.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Heritage is a 2-4 player Legacy-styled board game that takes 20-40 minutes to play. During the game, players build a bloodline from characters who complete history-based missions and challenges via Vampiric Battlegrounds. Gameplay includes the use of Intrigue cards, which change the rules of the game in thematic ways to fit characters and clans. Vampire clans grow in strength as they build a chronicle spanning 700 years of blood-soaked history. Humans can also be “embraced” and turned into fellow vampires, with new abilities and a new name. These newly embraced vampires are represented in-game by flipping their human card to the Vampire side, and returning them to their sleeve. To allow for this innovative gameplay, Vampire: The Masquerade – Heritage will come with more than 60 pre-sleeved character cards. To reach the conclusion of the 700-year timeline, players will scramble to unravel ancient mysteries and make the most of their allies and influence gathered throughout the campaign.

“We’re happy to be working with Nice Game Publishing to further expand the gameplay universe of Vampire: The Masquerade,” said Martin Ericsson, Lead Storyteller at White Wolf. “Seeing how they plan to take the popular Legacy format board game and bring Vampire into that style of play is something we are eager to see, and we’re sure our fans will be excited to play Heritage when it arrives in stores.”

“At Nice Game Publishing, our goal is to find, fund, and publish unique and exciting ideas for board game experiences. Vampire: The Masquerade – Heritage fits this perfectly,“ said Simon Schwanhäußer, CEO of Nice Game Publishing GmbH. “We’re both excited and honored to have the chance to craft a whole new tabletop experience for fans of the Vampire universe, and we will handle this beloved franchise with the care and craftsmanship it deserves.”

Features of Vampire: The Masquerade – Heritage include:

  • Shape 700 years of kindred and human history through a tabletop Legacy-styled game system
  • Avoid the Inquisition, uphold the Masquerade, and resist the Beast are just a few of the Vampire Battlefield challenges you’ll encounter
  • Embrace and enhance dozens of unique characters to build your bloodline
  • Gather influence and forge alliances in a mystery that spans centuries
  • Seven clans, dozens of unique, pre-sleeved character cards, special “vampiric battlegrounds” and more than 100 historical missions

RPG News, Sneak Peeks, and Deals – DriveThruStockArt?, Geist 1e Deals, and More

I receive, or uncover, a number of tabletop RPG news bites, sneak peaks, and deals (and rumors) through social media, message boards, IMs, and my in-box that are worth reporting on. What follows is a collection of these rumors (take them all with a grain of salt) as well as short hype pieces (sneak peek it and I’ll leak it). From time-to-time I’ll run these notes as a column.

Stock Art from Fat Goblin Games

Rick Hershey of Fat Goblin Games (DriveThruRPG link / Open Gaming Store link) provides tabletop gaming companies with a boatload of the stock art that’s used in their publications. On Facebook, he discussed his desire for OneBookShelf (DriveThruRPG/RPGNow, etc) to create a stock art specific website. Based on his comments, prior to his FB post, Rick “sent the suggestion several times over the last few years. Not sure if it received anyone’s attention or not [at OBS].” As well, Rick noted “the percentages OBS takes on stock art is too high – just saying.”

During the discussion, John Reyst of the Open Gaming Store, a competitor of OBS, expressed interest in discussing this with Rick as did Chris Perrin who is developing a stock art and photography sales site. Alan Bahr of Tiny d6 offered the publisher perspective – “A different site would add extra steps for me and make me less likely to use it.”

Meredith Gerber – “DriveThruRPG Pub Relations” – posted that “I am reaching out to [Rick] right now about it, actually :)” Will Rick’s posting lead to a change for the tabletop stock art industry?

STATUS: Monitoring.

Disclosures: I freelance for Open Gaming Network, a subsidiary of John Reyst’s Open Gaming, LLC as is the Open Gaming Store. I use affiliate links to DriveThruRPG. I’ve bought and plan to use stock art from Fat Goblin Games.
